Hi,

My RAW editor is CaptureOne. I only work with Sessions. I want to write the name of the session to which an image belongs in the metadata.
Which field would be suitable for this?
I have thought about the following:

XMP::photoshop\Headline\Headline\0
XMP::photoshop\SupplementalCategories\SupplementalCategories\0

DarwinCore::Main\EventEventID\EventID\0

But I don't know enough about it to decide whether something could get in the way.

There are a number of tags/fields in the PLUS tag group that are for custom usage - in fact they are labelled Custom 1 through to Custom 10.   I chose to use those for purposes that didn't seem to fit any standard tag.

There also many fields in the IPTC_Extension tag group that may be logical to use for your purpose.

One of the questions is whether you will want to be able to see it outside of IMatch and in other tools - such as CaptureOne - in which case you will want to use a field that is common.

I hope that is helpful.

Unless you provide deliveries to photo agencies or customers, you can use whatever metadata tag you like. For private use, there are no rules. The tags you mention are fine, as are the tags @PanDLong mentions.

I personally use the XMP::photoshop\Instructions\Instructions tag (part of the Default MD Panel layout) to store e.g. prompt and AI used to produce descriptions and keywords. You could use it to store the session name or whatever.

There are also the old IPTC-fields like "Job ID" and "Creators Job Title". They might be a part of the IPTC Name Space in XMP too, I guess.

I use these fields also, custom 1 to 10 since years.
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)
