Orientation of .orf raw files since update to iMatch 2025

Since the update to iMatch 2025 (currently version 2.4, 64-bit), all .orf raw files (from the Olympus E-M1 II) are imported in landscape orientation, regardless of the original orientation.

Everything worked fine in the previous version of iMatch, and there have been no system changes (WIN 11) other than MS updates.

Images imported with the previous version of iMatch are still shown correctly.

What can I do to resolve this issue?

Do you use photools.com RAW processing or WIC codecs?
Edit > Preferences > Application: photools.com RAW Processing
Search for raw to find the setting.

What is the state of the setting Edit > Preferences > Application: photools.com RAW Processing > Rotate embedded...
Enable the Extended Settings option at the bottom of the dialog to see these settings.

IMatch 2025 introduced several changes which may be related to this:

1. photools.com RAW processing (via LibRaw) is now the default for new IMatch installations.
2. A new version of LibRaw is included

Is the embedded preview in the ORF large enough to be used (Edit > Preferences > Cache; Min size) and Help > Support > WIC Diagnosis to check the size of the cache image.

Provide a sample file for download and post a link. Or send it, with a link back to this topic, to support email address.
The orientation in ORF files was always an issue, both with WIC and LibRaw.
Sometimes one or even both 3rd party libraries get it wrong.

Thank you for the instant reply!

The "Prefer photools.com RAW Processing" option was set to No -- as were all the extended settings.

Setting them to 'Yes' doesn't change anything, but I do not really know how to tell, other than Ctrl+F5, Shift+Ctrl+F5 (where I tried all options) -- but the file will still be shown in landscape.

This all worked fine before, but I might have had to adjust these settings years ago.

Here is a link to such a file https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2e4vaavrvbb5aso9u53lo/P4190207.ORF?rlkey=r6uw08a1lfcmgv225vcmhnqyv&st=xha2d0hb&dl=0

The orientation is showing correctly in Windows Explorer, MS Photos etc.

The default for the rotation settings is No.
There are a last resort work-around specific for some cameras which mess up rotation constantly and the only way to "handle" this is to tell IMatch to rotate the preview in the same way as the RAW - because WIC/LibRaw fail to determine the orientation of the preview.

When I add your image to my database I get the correct orientation for both the thumbnail and in the Viewer when I use photools.com RAW processing. The orientation is wrong when I set photools.com RAW processing to No.

Apparently, the WIC codec reports the wrong orientation for this image. Windows Explorer may use the thumbnail but not the preview, MS Photos may develop the full RAW or use LibRaw internally, who knows...?

Note: You have to Shift+Ctrl+F5 > Force Update affected images when you switch between WIC and photools.com RAW processing.

I recommend you set photools.com RAW processing to Yes and force an update of all affected files.

Thank you very much for your prompt assistance!

It all works with these settings:
