Write-back of some metadata fails on some images

Hello,

about 300 out of 4000 images have unwritten metadata. After writing the metadata by using Commands->Metadata Write-back-For all pending files, the collection "Pending Metadata Write-back" is empty. A few seconds later, the previously written files re-appear with unwritten metadata.
Keeping the cursor on the pencil icon shows a list tags to write. According to this list, the following tags cannot be written: XMP:dc\Subject, IPTC::ApplicationRecord\Keywords, XMP::Lightrooom\HierachicalSubject

I have deleted all keywords from a file and wrote back the metadata. After writing the metadata, some of the deleted keywords reappear the file which still has unwritten metadata.

Has anyone a idea how to fix this?

You might have accent charaters AND IPTC records. That can cause a problme like this.
Let make a test. Delete ALL IPTC data in some of your pictures. (BACKUP!)

1. Did you write-back 2 times?

2. Run the Metadata Analyst app for one of those files.
Use the green button on to to copy the results into your reply to this post.

3. Use the "Delete Legacy IPTC Data" preset in the ExifTool Command Processor to delete legacy IPTC data in the file.
Then repeat your test.

Most likely the keywords in your files are of-of-sync in a way that makes it impossible for IMatch to sync them.
Provide a sample image, you Edit > Preferences > Metadata  and Edit > Preferences > Metadata 2 settings unless standard and tell us about your thesaurus.

I had exactly the same problem. Removing the XMP data from the Raw-Images solved this issue.

Which software/camera did you use to embed the XMP metadata in the RAW?
By the XMP standard, there should be only one XMP record per file, and it should be in a sidecar file for RAW files.

I took my photos with a Canon EOS550D and a Canon EOS70D. To manage the photos I have used Adobe Lightroom for many years. Additionally I tried some open-source tools to write GPS date into the metadata. Maybe one of theses tools have messed up my files.
