Metadata writeback: Why does IM read metadata first from disk?

I attach a log file: All I did is click on one yellow pencil to initiate a metadata writeback.
IM performed a metadata read first which I don't understand. The file has not been knowingly
changed since it was read in.

I think this question came up before. I hope the log file will shed light on this.

The first operation is a write-back to

C:\Work-Temp\From Leo\SingaporeFromErich\2014-01-27 071.jpg

then the metadata is read back into the database for the same file.

This is the typical operation. I don't see any trace about IMatch first reading, then writing.

Got mislead because the "reading metadata" is the first notice one sees.
