How do I cause changes in metadata or keywords to ripple down in a stack?

I want to change metadata or keywords in the top file of a stack and have them ripple down to the rest of the stack without having to expand the stack and select all files in the stack. Is this possible?

Stacks are not about metadata. Stacks exist to allow you to stack or fold images to reduce the number of files you see in the File Window by stacking similar images. Stacks are for organizational purposes only.

If you want to assign keywords to all files in a stack,
+ expand the stack  (e.g. <Ctrl>+<Cursor right>)
+ select all files in the stack (<Shift>+<H>)
+ add keywords or metadata

Tip: zo transfer images from the stack top (or any other image) to all selected files:

+ Select all files and make sure you select the "source" file last (to make it the focused file)
+ In the Keywords Panel, click the pen icon to mark the keywords as modified
+ Save the changes

The Keywords Panel applies the keywords of the focused file to all selected files.

Extra tip: in the same way you can apply one or more tag values from one to multiple files in the Metadata Panel.

To automatically transfer keywords, rating, label and other metadata from on (master) image to other (version) images, use File Relations: Versioning. Versioning automatically creates version stacks, too.

Check out my APP: Propagate Keywords to the Stack which does exactly this... https://www.photools.com/community/index.php/topic,14894.0.html

I too often stack first during image review and THEN want to apply keywords to the top image and have them apply across the board.  With this APP, I can do exactly this.  Helpful when you want to add new keywords to existing stacks as well.

Hope this helps! - Andy.
