deleting versions
« on: May 16, 2021, 10:34:17 PM »
How do I delete versions that were created by mistake?

I created a versioning rule for my NEF files and it works. I open the file in my editor, create a PSD and save it, then a crop and save it and then a web JPG. All got saved to the original folder in a version set.

Some how I managed to create versions of other files that were NEF and JPG but were never created to be versions. Some were older files that were taken in both NEF and JPG by the camera at the time but were never versioned. Now I have a lot more master - version files than I want in my version collection.
I searched the community and the help but could not find an answer.

Thanks

Mario

Usually you would correct the wrong relation rule which created the wrong versions and then do an <F4>,<R> (Refresh Relations command in the context menu of folder) to un-version the wrong versions.
Or, move the versions to a folder not grabbed by your version rule and do Relation Refresh.

There is no command like "Don't make this file a version anymore" or something. File relations are fully dynamic.

I believe that I had inadvertantly told IM to rescan all the files of the DB, not sure how that happened. By doing that it followed the rule and all the older files were of course versioned. No damage done, just about 4500 more files versioned than I had in the first place out of 45,000 total files.

After some time going through the folders and some trial and error, I unchecked the rules and rescaned the database. No more versions. I knew what folders I had versions in because they were recent, so checked the rules on again and rescaned the approprrate folders. Now I'm back to where I started.

Of course this was just a copy of the main DB and image files I used for the web project I was working on. Always so much to learn and remember with this great DAM.

Thanks Mario
