Due to the fact that iMatch manages files more helpful than Explorer, and because it is more effective and helpful to use the same system consistently for annotations, categorization, etc., it makes sense for me to use it for some extended management as well.

There are also folders outside the standards which contain data that I do not want or cannot manage with iMatch, or are special and should not yet be managed in this way. Ideally, I would like to be able to see these folder in iMatch as well, because a good overview of the overall context leads to more efficient thinking.

What if we could define folders in iMatch that basically only show up as folders (with or without subfolders) and are never searched for files unless we specifically choose to do so by changing their state again? A special symbol or color would let us recognize locked folder right away.

PS. I hope I haven't overlooked a similar already existing feature.

IMatch is a DAM for managing your ingested media via its catalog... for managing items outside the catalog, I suggest a high quality Explorer replacement.  I've been using XYPlorer for many many years and thoroughly recommend it.  Made and supported by another super talented single developer - it can do pretty much whatever you throw at it!

I agree.  I've been using Directory Opus as an explorer replacement for 15 years, it does everything except to pour my coffee each morning.

A DAM .... "For Photographers. For Videographers. For Scientists. For Artists. For Librarians. For You."

My needs are distributed across the areas that I have highlighted and the combination of requirements results in concepts, that not always but often go beyond standard collections, due to the networking with external analysis systems.

But my wish is not that iMatch is a solution for everything, that would not even begin to be possible. I was just hoping to make the Explorer dispensable as often as possible with the help of the small proposed extension ... (if it doesn't cost too much effort).

However, I can understand that some of you may prefer to stick to your own established or more familiar solutions and consider other aspects of iMatch to be more important. Everyone has their focus.

This requested enhancement affects so many areas in IMatch that it could take several weeks to plan and to develop.
This is definitely not something I would even consider unless 100+ users have a use for this.

I didn’t expect the effort you indicated.
Of course I understand ...
