Thanks, guys

Yes, Thorsten, the version is: FancySearch-10-2021.zip
I have now enabled the IMatch-log and attached.

This time no result window.
I attached 3 screenshots, I do not know, if this helps.

Very strange... according to the log, the search found 11 images that match the search and the OpenResultWindow Post Op was fired... so, it should have worked!

sinus

Yep, strange.
I guess, it has to do with either a new version of IMatch or an (automatic) Windows update.
Because I have never changed anything on the app since 2021 and it has always worked perfectly.

Until 2 or 3 new versions of IMatch.
But unfortunately I can't find out which one that was.

But in the end it doesn't matter, it is what it is. Somehow a solution will be found at some point.  :)

(and if it works on your machine and on Thorstens, so it seems to be on my compputer only)

The only way I see this could fail is when the list of file ids is empty.
In that case, no result window is created and the 5200 error code is returned.
What does the "Nutzlast" tab show in your browser (this is what the app sent to IMatch).

I tried again and hope, this are the correct "Nutzlast", 2 attachements.

File id list looks good to me... the mystery continues!

sinus

What puzzled me most, when I start IMatch and try it, when I look at the result-line (what I like very much to see the results and time), the app works always fine.

But curiously sometimes it brings the result in the result window, if I have luck, 2 times (mostly only once), then it is finished.

Hmm, maybe my computer is simply a bit "moody"  ;D

Why so many individual oids? Why not using an idlist?

What does this app does that the database-wide search not do?
When I recall correctly, I've added the database wide-search on behalf of a FR from @sinus.
Hopefully I did not waste my time with that, wenn @sinus still uses this old app?

Thanks, Mario, for your answer.
You recall correct, you added the database-wide search from a FR from me. And I think, some users does use it quite often.
So I hope, my FR and your work was not wasted time. I use it also, specialy in the last time, because the app works not more.
And the search from the "File Window searching" itself of course is simply super!! But to perform a search, is, in my opinion, a bit akward.

And since you asked:
The app is simply (for me!) easier to use.
I have more information, how many files are found and in what time.
I have an information in every result window, this is very useful, if I have several open.

Then I can see better in a clean window, what is enabled for searching. That I cannot good see this in the File window search, what is enabled and what not, I have just asked some time ago.
And if I want to change, where to search, I must hover and choose and the window goes away, then I must do the same, if I want change some things.
If you do always the same, this is not a problem, but do this, if you want search with different choices. Then is is not quick done.

In the app I can see clearly, what and where I do search. If I toggle a search with the File window searching, the phone rings, I am away from the computer and I have to check again with hovering and so on.

The search app - window stays open and I can see it quicker.

If I had a good UI for searching, I would for sure not use an app. But this is only my opinion, maybe I am the only one.

QuoteI have more information, how many files are found and in what time.
I have never used the app, so I don't know.
When the result window opens, it shows the number of files. I don't think that time really matters. A search should take only a few seconds, even for really large databases. The first search is usually a bit slower since the index is "cold".

QuoteThat I cannot good see this in the File window search, what is enabled and what not,
If you don't know which options you have enabled, just open the menu or point the mouse cursor at the X button. The X button tooltip lists all enabled options and modes.

QuoteAnd if I want to change, where to search, I must hover and choose and the window goes away, then I must do the same, if I want change some things.
How often do you have to change search options?
I may be simple, but I usually keep it on frequent tags or all tags and I'm done.

Feel free to open a feature request.
When I'm finished designing and implementing and rolling out ribbons, I could make something like the Smart Menu in the Viewer also for the File Window ribbon. I have the tools now, since I've written everything myself.
I could also allow to open a second ribbon below the first, showing the search options and allowing to control them.
I could also add a third ribbon allowing to quickly filter for rating, label and collections - overriding the Filter Panel.

If users tell me what they are missing via a feature request, and other users like the request, I look into it.
Many feature requests are for one user only, never getting any likes. I've just archived four pages of feature requests without likes or interaction.

I will think about a FR, but as mostly, not that important, IMatch offers often several possibilities for a solution.  :)

Ha, an old problem (for me) has arised!  8)

Because of the recent post from ubacher (https://www.photools.com/community/index.php/topic,14386.msg101006.html#msg101006)

I tried the app "File Finder".
And to my surprise it is the same like I described here, quite some time ago.

in short: the first search opens a result window and brings all founded images there. Fine.

But the second and further searches does not open a result window. But I see at the bottom, that the search have been done "xx match(es) found" but no result window with the images.

Hence, the problem seems not to be your app, Andy, or mine, but it seems to be elsewhere in my system.

I wonder, should I start a new thread for this (app File Finder) and in what forum?

Mario

I use the File Finder app to search the entire database for files with names matching a
A result window opens.
I search for files with names matching b.
A result window opens.
I search for files with names matching c.
A result window opens.
Now I have three result windows.

Make sure you disable the Reuse result window option if you want each result in a separate result window.

Thanks, Mario

Well, Reuse result window is disabled.

Of course, I think, you cannot more remember all the stuff in this (old) thread.
But it is exactly the same like then with an app from Jingo and one from me.

The first search opens a result window with a perfect result.
The second search finds also the correct images, but does sometimes open a result window, mostly not.
And then the third and further search does find the images, but never open a result window. (also not resuse the result window).

BTW: the file-window-search works always perfect and opens several result-windows, hence I guess, the problem is only with apps. But I am afraid, this is only on my system.

But the apps here in this old thread was not an app from you, but the "File Finder" is an official app :) with the exactly same behaviour.
Hence I asked, should I open a bug thread or simply write here or in the "general thread".
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

Mario

I've used the official File Finder App included in IMatch.
Each successful search (with at least one match) for database-wide searches opens a result window. If no matches are found, no result window is opened. I can see no problem.

When I run the app in a browser, I can see the IMWS endpoint for opening a result window being called after each run with at least one match.

Hi Markus/Mario - I just tried multiple searches in Fancy Search and each subsequent search also produced results in new Result Windows.  I believe you have done some modification to the stock Fancy Search along the way (I could be wrong) but wonder if something is amiss in your version?  I'm happy to run a compare between our versions if you'd like to forward me a copy of your Fancy Search App folder.

Interestingly enough - I am having a new problem today with IM.. not loading new app versions into IMatch.  I have been trying to quickly modify the File Finder to show the not found results.. a few lines of code. However, even though I save the changes in the editor - IMatch is not picking up the new app - even with a forced refresh.  Sometimes it appears.. but in the past, this was nearly instantaneous..

Jingo

Well.. never mind on the "Interestingly enough" part.. I now see that the File Finder app is set to allowRefresh:false... so, it is acting as it should and not updating automatically.

sinus

Thanks, Jingo
I have tried this also with your original app, the same here.
But you, Mario and I believe, also Thorsten, had tried this and it worked for all of you.

Hence I guess, it is only here on my PC.
I stumbled simply over it (again), because I tried the official App "File Finder" and it is exactly the same problem.
So it is NOT your app, or my changed app, it is simply something on my system.

Because it is really not a problem for me, I leave it now, like it is.
If I have more time, I will look deeper into this.

Yes, this is correct. I tried it and it worked for me.

That's very odd... I assume you are able to force a result window by selecting images and then "Open in Result Window" and this works no matter how many result windows are open?

Yes, that is correct, that works, thanks!

And also the normal file window search opens several result windows without troubles.
Must be somewhat on my system here and apps. Your app, my app and also this "official" app "file finder".

And we have here in the thread tried several things, without success. I have a  second PC, what I will in the next days reactivate and I will see, if it is there also the same problem or not.

Then I will see, if it is here on this special main-computer or if it it something else.

Luckily it is something, what is not important. I think really, it is here on my PC.
As soon as I have news, I will report it.  :)

Enable "Reuse file window" and run a search. Then uncheck the option again and run two searches.
Maybe some setting got corrupted, no idea. Always difficult to figure out when some issue happens only one one PC.

What the heck is this???  :o

YEAH!!!

It seems to work again.
Mario, I did EXACTLY, what you wrote and ... it works again. No problem.
Then I tried with the app, what gave problems in this old thread:

Puh, worked again!
I wonder, what this is and how on earth you came on such an idea!
Thanks a lot for your intuition, Mario.

I will check tomorrow again, and Andy, I will check also your app again  :) I have to got ... football / soccer is waiting

Mario

Since you mentioned you work with one or more custom apps.

Maybe one of these custom apps uses the same "storage key" like the official File Finder app included in IMatch, but stores different settings. This can cause problems.

The official File Finder app uses imatch.file-finder.{u}.config as the storage key. The {u} is replaced by the IMatch user name at runtime.
