Unread messages

This Photools community is one of the best assets IMatch has to offer. I log in several times a week to see any unread messages.

But I noticed that since a week or so, unread messages don't show up as long as they used to do. There seems to be only a log of 2 days, whereas that used to be at least a week. Therefore I will be missing a lot of messages if I don't log in for say 4-5 days.

Has anything been changed in the settings of this community board?

Same here.
I must do Ctrl+F5 to refresh the page.
With me this happens at least for about 2 years now.
I made a post about that.

Mario gave me this link :
https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?action=recent
It will show the most recent posts.
But it is not the same thing.

Mario

No changes from my side. The last update of the community software was several weeks ago.
Try to clear the browser cache, this often solves such strange issues.

Yes, happens to me. Did just now.
I had about 10 unread messages last night.Did not read any.
This morning I call up Unread messages again and there are only two??
Is this a bug or explainable behaviour?

Mario

I have no idea. I don't develop the community software. Maybe unread messages expire after some time?
I always use https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0

I did not have the ;all;start=0 at the end of my bookmark. Adding this solved my problem.

The problem can indeed be solved by using the hint from Mario.

But nevertheless: something puzzles me.

When I open the unread messages in the way Mario describes: I get 15 new messages on my screen. When I open one them to read and afterwards return to the unread messages (by clicking on the link in the upper left corner : Show unread posts since your last visit), I would expect 14 to show up, but only 4 or 5 show up. When I close the community tab on my browser and reopen it, 14 messages are back again. Refreshing the browser cache does not do the trick.

I suppose that unread messages expire after 1 day, because I only see messages posted today or yesterday. That was not the case until some time ago. Unless I use the hint/tip from Mario, I will miss out on a lot of useful messages, and so will others do when they're not logging into the forum every day.

Surely there must be something going on with the forum software. Could the expiration delay be modified?

Mario

I have no influence on how the community software works or how fast messages expire.

I use the link I mentioned above, or click on the "Show  most recent messages" at the bottom of the page: https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?action=recent

I have no problem seeing unread messages, never have had that problem in this forum.  For what it's worth I mostly use Chrome as a browser.

Mario

Maybe its a cookie / cookie blocking issue? I use FF and I don't have the problem. Maybe check your browser settings and make sure that no add-on blocks the cookie.

From my experience, there is a difference between "Show unread posts since last visit" and "No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics.". If you are still in the same session, using the first link will show only topics that have been updated since you entered the forum. (At least it looks to me like that.)

https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0
should show all unread messages, while
https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?action=unread
shows unread messages since your last visit.
