Maybe an a good opinion if you don't want to sell you soul to Adobe ;D

Looks interesting. Maybe one of our Apple users here can tell us about his experience with it?
For Windows, there isn't even a beta version yet.

The public beta is for the Affinity Designer for Windows product. It's much more an Adobe Illustrator competitor than a Photoshop or Lightroom like app. I've played with it a bit and so far it seems fine. They have said their Affinity Photo for Windows betas won't start until after the Designer for Windows product is released. Hoping these products will be real competitors to Adobe for those of us not into subscription software.

I've used the MAC version and it is pretty nice.. there are some issues with brush precision but for the price and functionality - it is a great alternative.  Personally - I still reach for Photoshop just because I know it so darn well... even for simple things like cropping or resizing - I know how to quickly get it done so it is my go to.. but - for those that don't use Adobe products for professional work (I have a sub with all products for my business), I think Serif is onto something nice with this product.  Just hope it doesn't turn into bloatware like PS Elements, Paint Shop Pro and ACDSEE has become...

The Windows beta is for Affinity Photo.

Windows Affinity Design (Adobe Illustrator-like) final (not Beta) was released a week or so ago at an introductory price of $39.99 and includes several free add-ons.

I'm using Affinity Designer for Windows for vector-drawing. I don't do too much, but I like it.
Adobe InDesign is waaay too expensive for my irregular use and the free InkScape is not stable on my system (!) and the UI always felt awkward to me (!). A lot of potential in that application, though.

I plan to look at Affinity Photo when it is out. I will not switch from PS but I need to see what Affinity does to metadata to ensure optimal interoperability with your favorite DAM  ::) ;)

Mario,

Serif, the Affinity developers, plan a third program in their Adobe-like suite - Affinity Publisher - with a beta date of sometime in 2017. That one will be the counterpart of InDesign. Affinity Designer is the alternative to Adobe Illustrator.

I bought Designer when it was released a few weeks ago. It was that purchase that prompted me to also try Display Duet that I posted about here last week https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?topic=6097.0. With Designer open on the iPad, using its drawing tools, layers, etc. with the Apple Pencil almost anything is possible in terms of illustrations, graphics, photos, tracing - and all combinations of these. The only limit is one's imagination.

Hi Mario - the beta is now available for download here: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/windows/

Word on the street is that the UI is similar to PS which is a plus... but it still has a way to go before it is ready for prime time (though to be fair it is still beta).. and Adobe need not worry too much at this point in time.  It seems to be better than some of the other mid-range editors like ACDSee and Elements..

Also - OnOne RAW beta is out for those that pre-ordered... reviews also seem "unkind" at this point... still sticking with IMatch + Capture One + Photoshop at this point.

Sorry, I meant Illustrator. I always mix up the names of Designer and Illustrator

For DTP I use Microsoft Publisher, which is quite good, included in my Office subscription and does everything I'll ever need.
I also use Scribus when working on Linux. Which I can do more and more these days - because I can now access my IMatch database from Linux (using IMatch AnywhereTM).

Been playing around with Affinity Photo for Windows beta a bit. Does seem to need some work before it's ready for prime time. Support for 3rd party Photoshop filters/add-ins has been particularly poor in my testing so far. I'm hopeful it might some day replace Photoshop for me. I'm still using CS5 on W10 Pro and expect one of these years it will just stop working in Windows. Would be nice for a powerful alternative to be available when that day comes.

Affinity Photo for Windows was released today. $39.00 for a few weeks, then $49.99 - full refund within 2 weeks of purchase if not satisfied. Compatible with the Nik Collection plug-ins (and others) and they're working to expand the number of usable plug-ins.

I've used the Beta for several weeks and was pleased. I also bought Affinity Designer which uses the same file format as Photo - the things that you can do with an image by switching between Photo & Designer are remarkable. Not 100% bug free (what is, not even IM5  ;) ), but 100% usable - especially for a version 1 which will only improve.
