Which toolbar do you mean?

See attached screenshot for configuring the Category panel (i.e., click the gear).

This is what I'm told to do: Go to View > Panels > Categories From the toolbar select "Configure Category Panel" and mske a tab for each of the W categories. See Capture 04

Go to View > Panels > Categories

This command opens the Category Panel. Not the Category View.

The first screen shot you posted showed the category panel. Which was correct.
All you need to do is to click the Gear button in the toolbar, as shown to you by jch2103.

No you post screen shots of the category View.
Since your, somewhat fuzzy, subject of this post indicates that you want to configure the category panel, looking in the category view is wrong.

Maybe if you cold tell us what you actually want to achieve would yield more satisfying answers.

Did you try clicking the gear icon in the Category Panel? (When you do, also click F1 to bring up context-sensitive Help for that topic. There's a discussion about additional tabs.)

This is what I got but I still don't see a toolbar. If I go to the right hand  side and click on the wheel icon the I get the configure category panel but I don't want it on the right hand side. I want to be able to get it on the Left hand side.

Mario , this was sent to me by Richard Brogger and I used this to set up my database.

I think in one of your messages "which" I can't find now: You said that when I was putting some of files into categorizes . I would need to copy them from one of the 5 ws  and then some of my files would need to be moveed from some of the 5ws but I don't remember why you said that. And in this message you didn't say any thing about it.. So is this something I can really forget.

This is what I have done.

1. Created a new IMatch 5 database named "New IMatch Database"

2. Added five categories under the @All category. See Capture 01

3. I went to Edit > Preferences > Indexing and there I checked "All new files" and What, When, Where, Who, Why. See Capture 02

4. In Window I added a folder named "Ingest" in the "My Pictures" folder.

5. In IMatch I went to Commands > Add or update folders and there selected "Ingest". See Capture 03

6. I next went to View > Panels > Categories
From the toolbar I selected "Configure Category Panel" and made a tab for each of the W categories.
See Capture 04

7. I next selected some image files from other places and added them to the "Ingest" folder.
See Capture 05

If you look at the Media & Folders view on the left you will see that we are looking at what is in "Ingest". Looking at the Categories Panel on the right you can see that all the selected images are added to all five W categories.

When you select any view on the left (Media & Folder, Categories, Timeline, Collections) you can still work in the Categories Panel on the right to assign selected thumbs to specific Categories. Let's say that you have a batch of files in "Ingest" and you go through and Bookmark all images taken in
Montana. You then go to Collections and you will be able to show all Bookmarked files and using <Ctrl> + <A> select all of them. Then in the Categories Panel go to The "Where" tab. There you can
create child categories so Where becomes something like:

Where
---> USA
------> Montana

With just a click in the box for Montana, all selected files will be assigned.

It is not necessary to use Bookmarks. You can select images by holding down <ctrl> as you click on thumbs and then simply click on box for a category in the Categories Panel and they will be assigned.

Hopefully my steps will get you started.

P.S.
My plain is to use the 5 Ws: I would go to one of the Ws select a file and copy it into Universal Catalog > Animals & Pets>  Mammals> and then Coyotes. I would repeat this until all of my images have been put into a category. Would this also leave an image in the correct W?

I need my database to look like this.

What happened to Richard? I used to talk to him all the time.

I don't understand. You want to get what on the left hand side?
User-defined tabs are always added to the right of the predefined tabs (after the Recent tab). If there would be a way to do otherwise, it would be documented in the help.

Just add your WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, ... categories in the dialog and they will be shown as tabs after "Recent".

There is no "toolbar" involved in this, except for clicking the Gear button to open the Configure dialog.

As I stated before Richard this to me out of a Imatch 5. I don't mean to confuse you. I just want to get my database setup just like this image no matter if it's
on the left or right. I have spent all day yesterday trying to get this. So would you tell me step by step how I can set up mine so it looks like this one?
This what I get when I click on the gear icon. Now what do I put in this window? It says Configure Category Panel. So how do I fill it in so I will the Five Tabs to show up like like they do in the
Capture 04 image?

When you want to add a tab, you need to checkmark the visible box on the right in the "Configure Category Panel" and select a category group. For that, you click on the box with the 3 dots. This opens a selection box where you can select the category group you want to display. After you select the category, click okay and the box with the title box and category path box are filled. You can edit the title box if you like to give it a different name. Click ok and another tab should show up.

I think the steps are explained quite clearly in the help already. No need to repeat all that stuff here.

Just press <F1> when the Configure dialog is open to show the help.
Now click on "Table of Contents" at the top of the help page.
In the list that is revealed, click on "Working with Additional tabs".

Enable an entry, enter a name (the name of tab you want to see, e.g.. "WHO") and then select the category you want to see there with the ... button.

What is the problem? Pressing <F1>? Or opening the table of contents available at the top of every help page by left-clicking on it?

Click where the X is to open the table of content. Then click where the X is to see the help that explains how to work with additional category tabs in the panel.

I don't know how to make this easier for you.
It's explained in detail in the help. With images.
I explained it even again to you in my last post. It only takes a few clicks to add a new Category Panel tab. Just follow the help.

Assuming that you want to show your WHO category (I can only assume that) and that your WHO category is under @Keywords (I also can only assume that), this is what you would be heading for:

I'm sure you'll see how easy this is when you tried it once.

How do I  do this? Configure dialog is open to show the help.

Carl after you have clicked the gear icon in my last post, do what it says in the first attachment to this message.  When you are all done your configuration should look like the second attachment to this message.

But on your screen shot you already have tabs for what, when, why etc. in the category panel. What's missing?
