Data Driven Categories (Hierarchy)

I've set up a data driven category, with this Tag (Exif::Main\36868\CreateDate\0).  What I want to do is simply have the 4-digit year on one level, then the 2-digit month on the 2nd level, and finally, the 2-digit day on the 3rd level.  I can't seem to get it to work, when I use ":" as a separator, in the hierarchies section of the category setup.  Can someone please help me?

1. Don't access EXIF data directly. Always use the corresponding XMP tag: XMP::xmp\CreateDate\CreateDate\0

2. Use the Use part of value option.

Dates are formatted as

YYYY:MM:DD

so on the first level you want the part 1,4
on the second level you want 6,2
...
