Codec question: W7 displays MP4 thumbs, IM does not?

IM does not show me thumbnails for MP4 files. Windows 7 explorer does.
I understood that IM uses windows facilities for thumbnail generation.
Also: WMplayer plays MP4, so does the built in Media App

PS: IM3 does also NOT show thumbnails.

I'm sure the log file contains warnings or error messages for this one. Since you did not attach it, I cannot even guess.
