Is there a way to make annotations part of XMP Meatadat, e.g. rectangles like the face annotations.
I found something in the web like XMP MWG, but not sure if this can be used somehow.

No. IMatch manages face annotations automatically and converts them to and from XMP face regions.
For all other annotations, there is no standard or whatever that would allow to persist IMatch vector annotations in image files. And even if there would be, it would probably require a massive amount of work for maybe one or three users who would ever need this.

Consider storing the image as a PDF and annotate there.
Or use a vector application and copy your image into a document and use the vector programs tool's to combine pixel and vector data.

Annotations, except face annotations, are one of the least used features in IMatch. It was a good idea, but only a very small number of users seems to have a use for it. In that regard, it's similar to Design & Print. A very powerful feature, months of my time used to develop it, but it is used by only a small number of users (at least of the users participating in telemetry). Not worth to put more time and money into these features.
