Orientation tag disappears in File Window Layout

Using IMatch 2025.5.2

If I have the

{File.MD.XMP::tiff\Orientation\Orientation\0}
tag configured to always show in my file window layout then it always displays as expected.

However if I edit the layout and enable the Hide if Empty option for the orientation tag, when I exit editing the layout the tag still displays as expected as long as I have something entered in the orientation tag of the selected master image.  But as soon as I click on a version image without orientation then return to the master image that has orientation defined, the orientation tag disappears from the file window for all images.

If I then click to edit the layout again without making any changes to it when I exit the editing the orientation tag reappears if the selected image has orientation entered.  But again it disappears for all images as soon as I click on any version image without orientation then return to any master image that has orientation defined.

I'm confused.

You show a variable for the XMP orientation tag and talk about File Window layouts.
There is no "hide if empty" option in File Window layouts, when I'm not mistaken? There is an option with this name for Metadata Panel layouts. But these don't do variables... You also speak about versions.

What exactly are you doing and where, in a way that allows me to reproduce this?

My apologies for the confusion Mario, I'd had a long day yesterday.

I meant a metadata panel layout, see attached screen shot.

Mario

So you have a Metadata Panel layout with the XMP TIFF orientation tag and the "hide if empty" option enabled.
You click on a file which has XMP TIFF orientation filled and the Metadata Panel shows the tag data.
You click on a file which has no XMP TIFF orientation and the tag vanishes from the Metadata Panel.
You click on a file which has XMP TIFF orientation filled, but the tag does not show in the Metadata Panel.

Is this error description correct? I was confused about you talking about File Window tag vanishing and all that.

JohnZeman

That's right, once the orientation tag disappears from the metadata panel it doesn't reappear for any image unless I edit the layout then press OK to exit editing the layout (without making any changes).

Then the orientation tag reappears until I click on any image that not have orientation.  Once I do that the orientation tag disappears again for all of the images in the file window.

Probably something is not reset correctly or anything. I'll have a look for one of the next releases.

Mario

I have fixed this for the next release. It only affected tags which use a drop-down control to present possible values - like orientation.
