To avoid Imatch to create xmp files for defined file extensions

Hello, Imatch (last version) is creating XMP sidecars for files like ARW, what is good. Currently it is creating xmp sidecars for TXT files as well. This is something I want to avoid. Is it possible to configure this somewhere? Maybe in docu I searched wrong.
Thanks in advance

When you add/edit metadata and you write back, IMatch stores this data in an XMP files if the file does not support embedded XMP data. This is how IMatch works since version 5, back in 2016.

The XMP files are only created when you write back. So, unless you routinely write-back .TXT files, no XMP files will be created for them, ever.

Hi Mario, as always, many thanks for your fast response. You're right, not writing back is an option to avoid creating xmp sidecars. However, I have a lot of mixed filetypes in a folder. My workflow is to select all files and write back (by clicking on the pen icon). I do not want to filter out e.g. txt files. My questions is: is it possible generally to tell Imatch to avoid creating xmp sidecars for specific files types. Even I have clicked the pen. The reason for my question is, I do not want to have a lot of (for me) useless sidecar files.

The XMP sidecars are not useless. They contain proper XMP data, including Create Date, Date Subject Created etc.

There is no feature that suppresses XMP file generation during write-back for specific file format.

You can easily create yourself a file format filter that filters out all file formats you don't want to write XMP files to.
Store it, and then activate it in the Quick Filter Ribbon before you select all files and write-back.

I'm not saying xmp files are useless in general. I'm saying xml sidecars for a specific file type are useless for me.

Not sure if this would be a feature being helpful to other users. However, for me this is as a feature request.

Good workaround! Thank you, I'll continue with this until (hopefully) my request will be realized.

Thanks at all,

Please post feature requests in the feature request board. This way they won't go under in the stream of new posts in General Discussion everyday.

Since metadata management is insanely complex already, adding more and more features to it is definitely not on my list. This would require a lot of likes for your feature request for me to even consider.
