Categories panel filters

If I filter the categories Panel to show a sub-set of my categories everything works as I would like.

When I blank out the filter value the Categories 'cursor' move the the @All at the top, every branch expanded, and it takes ages for any response while all category totals are calculated (based on the display on the bottom bar).

Is there any setting which can stop it doing this. In general I do want total calculating, I find them helpful.

I have around 260,000 images and a lot of Keywords as I set them by bird/animal species. I haven't created any Data Driven Categories

I'm happy to provide a debug log if it will help, I haven't done initially as I suspect it isn't needed.

Hm. This is supposed to save the current state and selection of the category tree the first time a filter is applied, and when the filter is removed, it should restore the state that was active before the filter was applied.

What exactly do you do, in which order?
