Hi,
I have the following issue. Some photos have not the same orientation in the viewver and in the file window. I use both jpeg and raw file for each photo and the jpeg orientation is always good in the file window and the viewver window. The orientation (in the metadata) is Horizontal (normal).
For the raw file, the orientation is good in the viewver and rotated left in the file window for some files. In that case, the orientation (in the metadata) is Rotate 90 CW.
Using Windows 11 viewer, both files have the good orientation.
Using virtual rotation is not possible as it rotates both photos (viewver and file window)
I enclosed the view of the file windows with the jpeg and the raw files.

Do you have any idea to solve this issue ?

Mario

The standard questions:

Which IMatch version do you use?

Where can we download a sample image?
When we can actually get access to a sample image, we have a minimum of information to work with.
Upload to your cloud space and post a link.

Do you use WIC or LibRaw for RAW files? Edit > Preferences > Prefer photools.com RAW processing on or off?
Which device produced these images?
Sometimes camera vendors or firmware messes things up, storing the thumbnail/preview in the wrong orientation or with invalid EXIF orientation data.

Thank you for your answer,

I use IMatch 2025.4.4 (64-bit)

Prefer phototools.co RAW processing Yes
Camera : Panasonic DMC-G80

Image Raw : https://kdrive.infomaniak.com/app/share/809495/81ee2f31-8092-4e0b-ad94-8b08bf107dfd
Image Jpeg : https://kdrive.infomaniak.com/app/share/809495/a30a3605-e850-454c-8f9a-ca782cebdac7
Picture of theses 2 images in the file panel : https://kdrive.infomaniak.com/app/share/809495/ee342902-58d1-479e-8fc6-60c4c02a9cb8

Please note that not all raw files are with the wrong orientation, only those with metadata orientation : Rotate 90 CW

Is there a way to correct the orientation of the raw file in the panel filter (can't use virtual rotate as it rotates the jpeg too).

I don't understand this. What do you mean? Setting a virtual rotation for one image does not affect other images.

I've added your two sample images to a database. This is what I get (with photools.com RAW processing enabled, Cache set to 100%):

You cannot view this attachment.

This looks correct to me. Both images look correct in the File Window (thumbnails) and in the Viewer. I get the same result also using Windows WIC. Orientation is also correct.

IMatch's WIC diagnosis reports

WIC:
Thumbnail: Codec 'Microsoft Raw Image Decoder'
() 1024x768 pixel in 16 ms.
Preview: Codec 'Microsoft Raw Image Decoder'
() 1920x1440 pixel in 16 ms.
Full resolution: Codec 'Microsoft Raw Image Decoder'
() 4608x3464 pixel in 781 ms.

LibRaw:
    Preview: (Format:1, Dimensions: 1920x1440) in 0ms. Result: 0
    Original Image: (4816x3464 4608x3464) in 1953ms. Result: 0

The EXIF (and various other) orientation for the image is 6 (Rotate 90° Clockwise).
The [Panasonic] Camera Orientation is 1, whatever that means.

Looks all good to me. Did you upload the correct images?

Thank you for helping me Mario,

I'm sure I uploaded the correct images. This is a  screenshot of the file panel : https://kdrive.infomaniak.com/app/share/809495/f4a74a21-0e1e-4234-b27a-948ad7661290

The raw file is rotated clockwise only in the file panel, it is ok in the viewer.

If I virtual rotate the raw file in the file panel, then the orientation will be good in the file panel, but not in the viewver panel (the image will be rotated clockwise) : see image of the viewver after I virtual rotate the image clockwise in the file panel : https://kdrive.infomaniak.com/app/share/809495/e517aed8-0ac6-4cae-858b-02a6b000c018

My issue is to have the good orientation both in the file panel and the viewver.

Mario

QuoteIf I virtual rotate the raw file in the file panel, then the orientation will be good in the file panel, but not in the viewver panel
The usual reason for this is that the camera vendor, for whatever reason, stored the thumbnail, preview and maybe even the RAW data with different orientations, without recording this in their respective EXIF records. Impossible to tell programmatically. IMatch uses whatever orientation LibRaw/WIC returns and rotates the image accordingly.

But since the two files look normal on my system, what could be the difference?
My settings are the defaults:

Edit menu > Preferences > Cache: 100%,minimal size 2000 pixel. The file has a 1920 pixel preview and the 2000 pixel setting thus forces IMatch to "develop" the full RAW. Which minimum size do you use?
Note: After changing cache settings, you must force a reload of the image by selecting it and pressing <Shift>+<Ctrl>+<F5>.

My RAW settings are also default:

I found the solution based on you answer, I changed "Enforce DNG Stage2/Stage3 processing" to Yes (it was No before). I don't know why but it works !
Thank you very much

Mario

I'm also a bit unsure about what this does. It's a setting I forward to LibRaw after loading the DNG file with the Adobe DNG SDK libraries. Adobe has changed so many things to DNG, it's becoming more and more of a RAW format, with the known issues regarding compatibility and availability on all platforms...

This may be true, but .RW2 is not .DNG I mean.

Mario

This setting only affects DNG files, not RW2.
Your images show with the correct orientation on my systems (Windows 11, Workstation PC and notebook) whether or not I enable this setting or whether I use WIC or LibRaw.
