Opening image from Viewer in external editor

Having only been exploring IM5 B for a few engrossing hours (phew!) I have one immediate query:

how do I open an image from the viewer in an external editor? (viz., Nikon Capture which I have set up to open with Ctrl+Enter). This works from the selected thumbnail but not from the viewer which is from where I always need to open an image once I have viewed it at 100%. Ctrl+Enter doesn't work and I see no right click context menu for this function which is puzzling :(.

Thanks,

Jeremy

There is no command to directly open a file in an external application from within the viewer.

Leave the viewer with

<Ctrl>+<G>  (leaves viewer open)
<Alt>+<Ctrl>+<G> (closes viewer)

to jump to the currently selected file, and then hit <Ctrl>+<Enter>.

I think I would like to open a image from within the viewer too...
Nothing I have to have, but a nice addition :)
Cheers, Michael

Duplicating commands is of course always possible. It will blow up menus and all that of course.
I use Ctrl+G, Ctrl+Enter very often. I think that a separate menu command for this in the viewer will not help much. And sparing the simple Ctrl+G will also not improve your workflow considerably.

If you want this added, please add a feature request in the feature request board.

Thank you Mario, I will put in a request because I think many would prefer to be able to keep working in the Viewer, selecting images and sending them to an editor for individual or batch processing. Multiple images in the viewer is brilliant and makes it even easier to select images after making a comparison.

However, I've just tried your suggestion but find that 'Ctrl+G, Ctrl+Enter' doesn't work: I select a thumbnail & either double click or press Enter to open the image in the Viewer. Then, doing as you suggest, I return to the thumbnails with Ctrl+G and Ctrl+Enter but nothing happens. The image has lost its 'focus' and I have to highlight it again before Ctrl+Enter functions. Returning to the thumbnails from the viewer, the image is still selected in the sense that it has the red/brown background but instead of having a bright yellow border it now has a narrower dull yellow border.

Just by-the-way, and I suppose this could be reported as a bug, sometimes the viewer opens behind the thumbnail window, somtimes in front (preferred, of course).

The viewer will use up a lot of memory for caching. This memory is not freed when you keep the viewer open, this has to be considered as well.
Add a feature request.

If the file window does not get the focus on your machine, this would be a bug and you should add a bug report for it. This way I can keep track of things.
But since you reported this already I've written it down on my to-do list already so no need for that.

Thank you Mario. I didn't consider the memory usage but if it is possible to institute this process from the Viewer I would love to have that feature  ;D.

Mario

I've fixed the focus issue for the next IMatch build.
All what's left is a feature request for you to add.
