Make "Recently Updated Folders" panel optional

The "Recently Updated Folders" panel is of absolutely no use to me and only takes away screen space that would be better used otherwise (especially when working with only the laptop screen).
It should be made optional.

+1
The same here, I find it annoying also on a PC.
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

I find it useful

Me too and I'm happy that I've added it months ago.
But by experience, if a FR is made and a number of users immediately +1 it, there is a good chance that many other users are also affected. Or would be happy about the change.
Only a fraction of the IMatch user base participates in this community. And only a fraction of these users actively monitors and comments on feature requests. Which means that every feature request with 4 or 5 upvotes has some oomph.

I like the "Recently Updated Folders" panel, but it will be ok with me if it's optional...

It is on by default, as before.
But when you close it with the "X" button you get a message, telling you that you can disable it via Edit > Prefs... if you don't like it.
And this message has a "Don't show again", too.

All bases covered, I guess. :D

That sounds reasonable. I do use the feature; I usually don't have enough folders shown for it to be a distraction or take up too much room (even though I really should get a bigger monitor..).

Bigger monitors are good. And you can get good ones at reasonable prices (say, 400€) - unless you need super color-precise pro-grade stuff.
I use two 4K monitors side-by-side. A high-quality color-proof one and a cheap one.
While the color-proof one costs 4 times as much, there is not really that much of a difference. For everything except a pro-grade color-proof workflow, the cheap one does just fine.

IMatch can display a lot of stuff on a 4K screen. And even more if you move the Viewer and maybe some panels on the other monitor...

Why not make it a panel like any other that can be switched on and off through the "View"-"Panels" menu?

Probably not the place to continue this thread, but here goes

What cheap monitor are you using?
I've a sw2700pt and looking to add another, I've been thinking about another benq gw2480 t, at about 160 euros

I think it's an ASUS VP28U something, a gaming monitor with a very good panel. I think I've bought it for less than 300€ and I think it is quite good. Sharp text, lotsa space.

Though not the best place here, but the OT was about space.  ;)
I have also an 28 inch-monitor and a second 26 inch, but I wonder, if I would by a new one, if I would not buy a 32 or even a 34 inch for more space (they are also cheap).
My 22 inch is an Eizo colorproofed, but finally I work with the bigger one (except with photoshop).
Lately I have seen big TVs in the livingroom of my brother, 1.60M diagonal, impressive, for not a lot of money.

I wonder, if in such cases, if we have the room for placing the monitors, if it makes not sense to go bigger?
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

Yes!  I have a 34" wide along with a 27" regular... if going wide - I would HIGHLY recommend getting curved - I made this mistake and the edges are kinda strange when viewing straight on at typical desk view distance.  Wondering if my next monitor should just be 4k for resolution purposes.... too many choices!

Mario

This also depends on your Viewing distance and eye sight.
I use 4K 28" monitors at a viewing distance of one arms length, which is ideal (for me). No issues with the edges at this distance and monitor size.
If your viewing distance is larger or less, a larger monitor or a curved display may be better.

Having installed v20.9.4, this is still a problem.  I have changed preferences>application>user interface>show recently updated folders to 'no', clicked apply & OK.  The message continues to appear when updating folders.  Checking preferences, the setting has reverted to yes.

Carlo Didier

It works on my PC. The settings stays at "No". So maybe a problem that's specific to your installation.

Hmm - guess I will have to live with it.  It is only a slight niggle.

Mario

We speak about Edit > Preferences > Application: Show recently updated folders, correct?

Any warnings in your log file? Do other settings stick?
All this is stored in the same settings database so it would be strange if only one setting fails to store correctly...

I exited IM then opened and problem has resolved itself.  :-\
