not closing correctly
« on: August 29, 2020, 03:18:58 AM »
It seems that every time I open my database, it tells me that it was not closed correctly the last time. I select exit and then it does some work before everything closes. The next time I get the error message. I then go through the repair proccess. Once in, I continue to update metadata in files. Every so often I compact and optimize the database. I sometimes also get the not closed correctly message when I do that. Is there something else I need to do or not do?

Please switch to debug logging (Help menu > Support) and then secure the log file after IMatch has closed and before you restart it. ZIP and attach to a reply.
See log file for more info about how to track down problems in IMatch.

So I turned on the debug log feature and then started to update a bunch of metadata in multiple images. After every large set I invoked the Compact and Optimize function.
Naturally, now that I was watching more closely, the "not closed correctly" error did not appear.

Will keep an eye on this going forward.

opened iMatch
Turned on the Debug log again
First did a Compact and Optimize
Did some face recognition
A second Compact and Optimize
This time it told me the database was not closed correctly.
Ran the Database Diagnostics and the Metabase had a yellow triangle.
Saved the Log file and zipped it.

I also noticed that 37 files are showing the yellow pencil, pending write back. Select them all and click on the pencil. After it is done, the pencil reappears. One of those file has been zipped and attached.

I was going to also run the MetaData Analyst but I can't seem to find it.

Attach the log file (log file) before you restart IMatch. This will show us where IMatch runs into problems when shutting down.
The warning in the diagnosis log is harmless and may be caused by IMatch being unable to commit database updates.

Are you sure your virus checker is leaving IMatch alone?

I closed iMatch and found this in my temp folder. Is this what you need.
My antivirus has been told to ignore the folder where iMatch has its database files.

I see literally tons of warnings from ExifTool:

Error: Error reading image data - M:/2005/...

and also

WriteBack failed for file [41061] 'M:\2005\2005-09 vacation Nederland\

It seems IMatch/ExifTool cannot access any file on drive M: properly. ExifTool cannot read the files to extract metadata.
And IMatch tries to write-back to the files, and also fails. Did you enable immediate write-back under Edit > Preferences > Background Processing for some reason?

Anything special about M:?
Virus Checker blocking access?
