I've used IMatch for longer than I thought

Found this when going through some old blog posts.

We are now taking digital photos at an ever increasing rate and have easily outstripped SLR use.  With over 1000 photos on the PC (some from the digital camera, others scanned from the SLR), plus 40-odd CDs of video, it is important that we be able to find everything and catalogue it for future reference.  You can't write the date on the back of a digital photo.

We were using The Print Shop Photo Organizer which has been good up until now.  It's just taking a little too long to import photos into the catalogue and it can't handle the video CDs. But until yesterday, I hadn't been able to find an alternative.  Most didn't catalogue as well or they worked directly off the hard-drive.  Move a photo and all was lost.

Then I found IMatch and it does everything. I can catalogue quickly.  I can apply a description or title to multiple photos at once. It recognises the video files and tells me if they are not present (ie. the CD is ejected).  It will even create a pretty sexy web page of all our photos, not just what we've uploaded here.  Makes a nice cup of tea as well.  It's future proof because I can export in XML and read that into whatever I like if the time comes.

Still don't have everything catalogued!
Have you backed up your photos today?

Yesterday I've exchanged email with an Architecture photographer who is looking into migrating to IMatch.
He has 5 million files to manage...

I've told him honestly that I have no experience with IMatch databases containing more than 2 million files.
I just don't have that many files. My largest test database is just shy of 1 million files.

Well, looking back at the telemetry, at least one user with over 6 Millions files works with IMatch.  :D

BTW, just for test purposes, it would not be that difficult, to create such amounts of files.
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

Sure. But I would need to buy a new set of disks, produce another 4 million RAW/JPG/TIFF/video files mix for that test.
And considering that most IMatch users work with file sets between 100,000 and 500,000 files, my large test database is twice that size, I don't really see a reason to spend time with this.
