Custom Sort

I have filtered images, and want to work on my current selection. So I reset custom sort, and switch to Custom Sort.
If I now scroll down and in my File Window and select a thumbnail, change the filname...focus pops up to the first image. Pretty annoying, because now I have to scroll down to find the images I was working on. First this happened when versioning was on....constantly shifting focus to first thumb after a version match happened. I temporarily turned off versioning, but still have the problem from time to time, that a refresh occurs, and focus is on first thumbnail.  What can I do, to work on a "Light Table" without losing focus of current image ?

Mario

Just to make sure we understand:

1. You are working in which view? Media and Folders?
2. You have enabled a custom sort.
3. Renaming a file reloads the file window?
4. You are using which version of IMatch 5?

I tried to repro that but the file window does not even flicker.

1. Media and Folders
2. Filter for blue pin, custom sort
3. Renaming a file, shifts focus to top first thumbnails.
4. Build 140

Mario

And this happens only when the filter is active?

Yes, only when filter is active.
I filter for Flag Off OR Blue Pin.

Easy to reproduce. Happens with any type of filtering.

Mario

I tried to reproduce this:

Media & Folders View
A folder with about 200 files
Select 30 files and add a red dot
Switch the file window to custom sort and change the order of some files.
In the filter panel, enable the Rating & Label filter and show only files with a red dot.
Scroll down, about the middle of the file window.
Pick a file, <F2> to rename it.
The file remains highlighted, no scrolling in the file window.

Looks good here. Anything you do different?
Maybe a data-driven category on the file name?
What file window layout do you use?

Nothing different here. I do as you do, and still have the focus problem. I have not created my own data-driven category, and only have default one. Tried with standard layout, and the problem is still there.
See if attached logfile gives any clues.

Tried to reproduce this on a different computer..and could not. Got a quite oppsite result, no refreshing at all in the Media & Folders view.
Tired a sort experiment. Sorted by Rating..and changed rating on image number 3 from none to a 5 star rating....nothing happens (write-back set to immediately, import new and updated files  automatically). The file has correct rating displayed, but the sort profile does not refresh the sort order. When does the sorting occur ?  There is no refresh icon in the toolbar, so what should I expect in this scenario ?

Mario

I think the file window is clever enough not to reload in this case. Pressing the standard <F5> will force it to reload (or switching to another folder and back, re-selecting the sort preset, toggling a filter etc.)

When current thumbnail is selected and in focus(red), pressing F5 does not change the sorting. I have to select the folder, and then press F5 for the sorting to refresh. Changing to Categories View and back to Media & Folders does work, but that is not the way it should be done.
On my main computer, changing rating, triggers sorting automatically.

Mario

F5 now works again (Build 5.0.142).

Trying to determine, for every change the user does in a file window, it this may impact the current sort order would consume a lot of processing power and would slow down all operations. The sort profile can use rating, label, all kinds of metadata, in various combinations. In order to tell if changing a rating or setting a dot or changing the title tag has to result in a reload of the file window is complicated. Yet this would be the only way to do what you are looking for.

For now, I will keep the <F5> solution. If you want a different handling, please add a feature request to the appropriate board.

Good. F5 or a refresh button in the toolbar is fine for me :)
I just want consistant behaviour. Why does Imatch autosort on one machine and require manual refresh on the other ? Ref ny original post, the automatic refreshing is my main problem.

No idea. Maybe different panels / settings / sort profile configurations / sequence of operations / ?
The file window refreshes based on certain events, from database events to file system notifications. It's hard to tell without a step-by-step to repro it.
