Title: Viewer: Side by side display in viewer
Post by: greg on May 19, 2020, 12:14:36 AM
Often I want to compare images. I've been selecting a couple of images, sending them to my external photo viewer where two windows pop up and I place them side by side. Multi-select in the Imatch viewer allows to quickly move between images, but not side by side. Perhaps there is a way to do this in Imatch but it eludes me. I've used this kind functionality in another software product in the past. I'm thinking it was in Lightroom. An option to select how many images to have displayed in the viewer at the same time would do the trick.

I can see 2 images side by side in the Viewer.

- select 2 images
- right-click and choose Send to Viewer
- in the Viewer right-click and choose Layout - 2 files (or the number of files you want to see at the same time)

If you have multiple files in the Viewer, the files need to be next to each other in the Filmstrip to be viewed at the same time, but you can move/reorder a file by using Numpad + or Numpad -.  I have not found a way to directly select two files from the Filmstrip using the mouse.

If you select only the files of interest prior to launching the Viewer, which sounds the same as your method with the external photo viewer, then it is not too much of an issue to move them.

Thanks. I didn't know how to do that. Simple enough.

The Viewer can display up to 8 images side-by-side.
If you did not know this, I recommend to browse the Viewer (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#viewer.htm) help topic again.
You may miss some or many of the other advanced features the Viewer offers. Maybe a good way to speed up your workflow...
