Title: Start Bridge without crashing
Post by: Carlo Didier on September 04, 2019, 08:12:14 AM
As some of you may know, ince months, Adobe is completely uncapable of correcting the bug which causes it to crash if it is started from another program, command line, powershell, etc.
After some experimenting, I found this:
- Bridge starts fine with the shortcut created upon installation (or any copy of that shortcut)
- Bridge crashes if run from a command prompt, powershell, vbscript, iMatch javascript, ...
- Bridge crashes if you set it's option to start upon user logon

So, I made a copy of the original shortcut and put in in the folder where my little iMatch app to open Bridge with the currently focussed file resides.
Then I changed the shortcut to this:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CC 2019\Bridge.exe" "%*"
The "%*" at the end allows to pass on any command line parameters.
Now, my app can start Bridge through this shortcut without crashing and point it directly to the focussed image in iMatch.

Thanks for sharing. Never noticed this because I never use Bridge. I have IMatch  ::) :D

But iMatch doesn't have ACR  :) Bridge is the simplest way to develop raw files if you don't want to use Lightroom.

I have Photoshop, Lr and Affinity Photo. No use for Bridge.

I use Photoshop.
Because there I can "develop" my raws (nef), and do some fine-edition in the same program (Photoshop).
I find this very convenient.

I used Bridge for 2-3 monthes, some years ago, but I did not really liked it, but honestly, I do not know, why, maybe a bit too bloated.

Well, Bridge is much less bloated than Lightroom  :)
I only start Photoshop when I need it, which isn't very often. 99% of what I want can be done in Bridge/ACR (note that with ACR, you get the same raw engine as in Lightroom).
There is so much now in there which could only be done in Photoshop years ago.
And if you use other raw processors (like Capture One), you may never ever need Photoshop again.

Thanks, Carlo. I see.
I use not LR, only Photoshop.
OK, than I am behind the photo editing -state of the art.
I did not know, that other programs offers also that mutch like Photoshop, like things, what I use often:

layers
text
pathes
Actions
and more of course

It seems, I have to look around again, what other programs offers.  8)

I only use Photoshop now because I "rent" it as part of work based Photoshop/Indesign package.... there are so many good compatible programs available for free or cheap now!

Thanks to Mario :) mentioning Affinity Photo a while back I no longer need any Adobe products. All the Affinity apps Photo, Designer and Publisher work great with Imatch!!

I wonder, when or why a lot of Photoshop-users will change to Affinity Photo.
I do not know Affinity, and I do not have an Abo for Photoshop, but I have still a PS CS6 and to be honest, as long as I have not problems, why should I change?
But of course, maybe in 1 year I have to change to another product.

I don't use Affinity Photo much (I have it just for testing compatibility with IMatch etc.).
But I use Affinity Designer for vector work a lot and it is great. And very affordable, comparing to what Adobe charges for InDesign.
I have not yet looked at Affinity Publisher - because for the DPT work I do the Microsoft Publisher included in my Office 365 subscription is more than sufficient.

I use Bridge to download photo's from my CF cards to my SSD drive on my computer (desktop or laptop). And in that process I also add copyright info.

That's all I do in Bridge. From that point onwards, I only use Imatch for organising, renaming, culling etc. Editing is done in Photoshop (and that starts without a glitch from Imatch).
