IMatch 2018 introduces two new photools.com tags (and corresponding shortcodes):
cameraserialnumbercomp
photools.com::IMatch\1501\cameraserialnumbercomp
Many camera vendors don't use the official EXIF serial number tag to store the camera serial number (Why?).
Instead they hide this information in vendor-specific maker notes, often even in different maker notes, depending on the camera model. Sigh.
This new tag tries to overcome this by creating a synthetic serial number by looking at over 20 other tags. Very cool when you want to use camera serial numbers to identify your cameras for whatever purpose.
cameraname
photools.com::IMatch\1510\cameraname
This tag combines the EXIF make and model tags and also performs some cleanup to unify maker names and spelling.
The result are camera names like "NIKON D850" or "Canon EOS 5D Mark III". Very convenient for display purposes or data-driven categories.
Excellent idea, Mario!
Thank you very much.

Excellent. It's possible to get this info now, but it's a pain to get consistent data (because camera companies are so inconsistent!). Look forward to seeing this cleaned up data.
Like a lot !! Given up on it for now as too much hassle over a range of camera's.

Please write the make/model strings used by your camera(s) into a reply.
To perform the cleanup I need to maintain a static 'table' and I want to cover as many variations as possible.
To see the info I need, copy these two variables into the VarToy app in the App Panel:
{File.MD.make}
{File.MD.model}
and then copy/paste the results into your reply. Thanks
Tried it but no response that I can see.
Have you selected a file in the file window which contains this metadata?
:) That will do it ... ::)
I assume you want as many camera's as I can find ?

Yes.
Tip: IMatch by default creates a category "IMatch Standard Categories" > Image Files > Make & Model.
You can use that to quickly get a sample of all the cameras you have used. Just click on one image in each category and copy/paste the results of the variables.

Hi:
Do you also want cell phones?
Thanks. I've covered these all already.
The typical issues are
Make Model
Canon Canon PowerShot G11
which needs to be shortened to
Canon PowerShot G11. Canon (and Nikon) often repeat the make also in the model. Duh!

See attached for my usual cameras, mobile phones & scanners. I've included a list of Canon models, from images acquired from others.
All handled already, thanks.
Would you say that
Konica Minolta Camera, Inc. and Minolta should be folded into one vendor? And if so, which?
I would vote for keeping them separate.
No, keep them separate. The name changes were a reflection of prior reorganizations and business lines, so separate makes sense.
See attached file.
Thanks. Impressive list ;)

Thanks. I think we have covered all standard and even exotic make/model combinations.
Most important for me is that the surrogate camera name does not contain things like "NIKON CORPORATION NIKON D750". Things like this should be folded into "NIKON D750" because that's easier on the eye and more useful.
I have now a mapping table with 39+ entries, and this replaces the similar table so far only used by IMatch Anywhere for the Camera Model section in the Nevigator. Now both IMatch and IMA use the same table and both have a "better" camera tag.
