Title: Hide empty groups in file window
Post by: Arthur on December 10, 2017, 10:18:52 PM
The feature request is to optionally hide empty groups in the file window while hierarchical mode is enabled. This option is especially useful, when a filter/search is applied, which makes some groups empty.

If there are 1000 directories with 1 file each, searching for that one file could show 1 directory group with 1 file, instead of 999 empty directory groups, where the relevant part is somewhere inbetween.

Any +1 for this?

If you work with folders, just enable the "Don't group by folder" option in the "Hierarchy" drop-down menu in the toolbar. No group headers will be shown.

Yes, I knew that one. Normally I look at the files in grouped mode and when I filter I just want to stay in that mode. I only do not understand the advantages of displaying empty groups when filter/search is applied. It only increases the scroll distance to reach the results. Just a usability issue, not a show stopper.

This depends on how you see it.
Currently, the file window indicates that a folder has no matches by showing only the header. Or not, if you disable the header.
