Title: Reorganizing and tidying categories
Post by: Aubrey on July 27, 2017, 11:53:32 AM
Time to do some housekeeping in my categories. Now that there is the ability to increase number of category tabs I want to make better use of this feature.

I'm primarily working on the categories window on the left of main panel and moving around the categories under different headings.

At the same time I have the categories panel open.
I have collapsed the Keyword tree and IMatch Sample categories tree.

However, when I make a change in the categories e.g. move a category (in the window of left of main panel) the "categories panel" automatically expands keywords and IMatch sample categories.

Is there a way to stop the category panel expanding these trees?

Thanks,
Aubrey.

The panel by default "follows" the selected file, making sure that the categories of the file are visible in the Category Panel. This is why it automatically expands the tree as needed.
Disable via the toolbar (button left of the GEAR icon) as desired.

Mario - thanks!

I looked in the manual.  :)

But IMatch has so many bells and whistles!
When you explained it it reminded me I do vaguely remember this being explained in one of the Release Notes.  ???

Not sure how you keep track of all the features  ;)

This follow feature was already part of IMatch 5.0 - so you remember release notes many years back  ;)

I usually keep categories in an "unattached window" on my second screen.
Each time I open the window (using F9,C) the "follows" is switched on, despite switching it off  in a previous session.
I've looked in preferences and manual, but don't see anything about how to keep it off.

I've made some tests with docked and floating panels. The setting is always stored and also correctly re-established when the panel loads again. The setting is stored per user / per computer.

Closed and reopened IMatch 2017 7.6 after your tests.
Still have the issue.
Opened my documentation database, issue does not appear there
Then reopened my image database now working as expected.

Some little gremlin got itself in a twist!

I have attached a debug file for the opening of the image database. (In my opinion not worth spending time on as issue has disappeared)
Sequence of events recorded:
F9,C
Uncheck "follows"
Close category view
F9,C
(Follows highlighted automatically)
Dump log file.

There are only some error reports about inaccessible relocation resources (Portability) H:\.... and some Favorites to applications which no longer exist.

Storing settings like this is such a no-fail (usually) IMatch does not log anything. There are hundreds of settings stored.
But if it works now, all is well.
