Title: Rating and Labels together
Post by: AlanS on August 10, 2013, 11:33:31 PM
Hi Mario,

Is there a way to have the first 9 labels be assigned by 'shift+number (1-9)? I just have the first 5 labels assigned by 'shift+1 thru 5'.

Building on this idea with a twist; when using the viewer, the ratings can be assigned by '1 thru 5', I would like to be able to assign labels with the '6 thru 9' without using the shift. For me the same labels 6-9 in the idea noted above would work well if I didn't need the shift key when rating.

When I'm viewing a large number of images being able to rate and label images with a minimum number of keys would make the job quicker. Some images I want to both label and rate and I think it would be quicker to use just the arrow keys and number key; one hand for number keys and one hand for arrow keys.
Perhaps this is possible but I haven't yet found how to implement this idea in the help.

Cheers,
Alan

Hi Alan,

If you are rating and labeling a lot of images I would suggest a Favorites Panel. You can drag and drop each label and rating category to the panel. Once you have the panel setup, select a thumbnail(s) and click on that rating in the panel. With just one click you can assign the image(s) to a category.

Attached is the Favorites Panel that I am using to assign images to centuries. I assigned all images to my When category and have it selected in my Categories. Most of my images were taken in the 20th century so I can select a thumbnail,  go through the thumbnails until I come to an image that is not 20th century, press <Shift> as I click on the last 20th thumbnail and with one click on 20th, sometime hundreds are assigned at once. I then hold down <Shift> as I click When in Favorites and they are removed from When. Once my When category is empty, I know that I have assigned all images to a century.

Why am I grouping images by centuries? I need to change the creation dates so that the Timeline will be right. Having them grouped makes it easy to find the right dates in my genealogy program.

Richard -
I must be missing something: I can drag and drop Dots and Pins from Collections to Favorites panel, but not Ratings or Labels. What/how should I be doing that? Thanks.

I drag and drop from Categories. Not Collections. I just tried both and it works from Categories but not from Collections.

QuoteI would like to be able to assign labels with the '6 thru 9'

<6> is already assigned to the Reject rating.

The <1> to <5> keys are in easy reach for the left hand for rating, and equally easy to reach when you hold down the left <Shift> key for labeling. This is why this specific combination has been chosen. This key assignment is also used by other RAW processors and software usually used in the same workflow as IMatch - which makes it easier for users to remember.

You currently cannot create Favorites from ratings an labels or other dynamic collections which are filled from metadata.
