Haha, yes, I also sometimes have a humorous false face detection as well (in trees, or in a wall pattern).  I can often see why IMatch thought there was a face there, but sometimes not.

We humans have been trained to detect faces, and we can "see faces" where there actually aren't any.  I guess the AIs make the same mistakes...

This is a bit like modern AI's hallucinating facts out of thin air.
What is so easy (after a million years of evolution) for humans (identifying faces in an image) is really hard for a computer. It just sees a couple of million pixels and has to figure out if some of them are eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, ears etc. The training makes the AI sometimes detect faces in the weirdest places, like in your example. Or on things with just the right structure or "noise".

It's always a balance. Finding as many faces as possible without too many false positives.
Assigning as many correct persons as possible, without assigning too many wrong faces.
