Title: Missing items in preferences...
Post by: Aubrey on September 23, 2024, 11:57:45 AM
I'm missing items in preferences (see attached image) , specifically for me "Autoload Database" I want to set this to "no".

When I compare with help (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/settings_db.htm) many other items are missing from the list

I moved to a new computer a few months ago, and suspect that some file may have been left behind...

I've updated to latest version of IMatch.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Aubrey.

Did you tick "Show extended settings"? See screenshot:

Axel,

Nope!

Thank you. In mitigation I've been away from IMatch for a few months and have to relearn.

The idea of this feature (and the Expert Mode) is to reduce the number of settings (especially new) users have to deal with.

All of the IMatch settings exist for a reason, but they can still be intimidating for users who switch from "simpler" software or app to IMatch. Much like the Photoshop Preferences ;D
Hiding potentially dangerous / complex features behind the Expert Mode and hiding rarely used settings in Edit > Preferences > Application by default helps with that.

Hi Mario,
I was a little surprised to find Autoload Database and database location hidden, unless in Expert mode!

Axel has reminded me to check the expert setting, something I had not thought to do.

IMatch is looking better and better with each increment (and we are still in 2023 version ;) ). I'm getting a little behind the curve in my database and the potential improvements that can be applied, hopefully in next few weeks I can implement some  of these newer features.

99.9% of all users never change the default for AutoLoad.
What doe you mean with "database location"?

IMatch 2025 is just around the corner (more or less) and will introduce some exciting new features and a modern face lift for the user interface.

I have 2 databases: one for technical papers another for photography. So I'm part of the 0.1%
On top of this when a new version of IMatch is available I copy and rename my photography database and then load this with the new version of IMatch. e.g. the current database is 2023_14_02.imd5

I always keep at least 2 versions of my photo database in my d:\imatch5_db. ( BTW I also frequently locally backup to a dedicated directory [E:\imatch-copy\%date:/=%] my two active databases, and directory c:\ProgramData\photools.com\imatch6  using a script with robocopy and 7Z respectively )

I'm also a Backblaze user for some 13 years so hopefully my belt and braces won't let me down.

My mistake... it's "Settings Database filename"... this is definitely expert mode.
