Title: Transfer Metadata from multiple RAW Files to DNG
Post by: vsammy on October 03, 2021, 12:48:25 PM
Hello

Is there a simple way to automatically transfer the complete metadata from the RAW file (RAF) to the newly converted DNG file located in the same directory (same file name in each case)?

So far I do this per file in copy-paste format. I just converted more than 400 files to DNG format....

Which DNG converter do you use? Usually they re-create the EXIF and copy other metadata as well...

Note that simple copying a RAW EXIF metadata record to a DNG file may/will cause issues - because the EXIF contains file-related data and probably maker notes which no longer match when copied to the DNG.

IMatch has no "find files like so and then copy metadata like so" feature.
Have you considered making the RAW files master files and the DNG files versions and then trigger a propagation of XMP data? This would do this automatically.

See File Relations: Versioning (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#rel_versions.htm) and Propagation (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#rel_versions.htm?dl=h-15)

Another solution would be to use ExifTool to copy the data from the RAW to DNG files. See for example here https://exiftool.org/forum/index.php?topic=9342.0 or Google.

Thanks Mario for the help,

I used the official Adobe DNG Converter... I'll try the exiftool....and will answer later.

The DNG converter transfers existing data, as far as it is safe to do so.
