Title: Changing 'Direct assignments only' for a data-driven category
Post by: PandDLong on September 13, 2021, 10:24:33 PM

I have setup some data driven categories and notice that some of them show one category count (a) and some show two (a/b).

I am sure this is because I set the 'Direct assignments only' option differently for the categories when I first created them.  When I look at the category properties now, this option is no longer visible.

Is there a way to change this option for existing data-driven categories?

Direct assignments only only works for normal categories.

Ok.

Interestingly, it looks like it works (I get two counts) if I set the option to No before I click into the Data-Driven property and edit the data driven information.  I did a quick test and created two identical data driven categories and set the Direct assignments only flag to 'Yes' in one case and 'No' in the other, the counts appear as one would expect.

Perhaps this is just lucky functionality...  (and subject to change without notice).

No problem.

Data-driven categories automatically assign files and dynamically create and remove children, depending on the data found in the database.
Direct assignments only makes no sense, because all assignments are direct by the very nature of data-driven categories.

Don't try to work against the system, don't try to trick it. Don't waste your time.
I don't try to think of or prevent every possible mistake a user can make. It's just not worth it.
