Title: New IMatch teaser video for potential new users
Post by: Mario on May 07, 2020, 08:38:14 PM
So many things on my to-do list have been delayed for so long...sigh. To create new tutorial videos is one of these things...

Anyway, I've finally managed to update the "What's IMatch?" video, which is supposed to give potential new users an impression of the software - before they download the trial version etc.

It's not easy. Impossible to do right, especially if you are only one Mario.
It's insane how much money venture-capital financed startups sink into similar product and 'image' videos..., hiring specialist firms to create them.

So, I've just revamped the existing video from 2018 (https://www.photools.com/community/Smileys/photools/ashamed01.gif), added info about events and face recognition and then uploaded it to the photools.com YouTube channel. Still, almost a day worth of work.

You can find the updated video on the IMatch page, if you want to check it out:

I think the video mentions most of the important stuff and gives potential users a fair impression of what to expect before downloading and installing the trial version.
But I really such at marketing. This is just how it is.

Very nice Video Mario... I think you give a great overview of the features and sell the product quite nicely!   I'm intrigued by that "image Matcher" app towards the end...   8)

That's just a helper app I use during projects involving cleanup and de-duping. It allows me to quickly see visually similar files for the current selection.
It uses the /search/similar endpoint, plus some additional filters. Nothing fancy or secret. It basically does the same as Search > Visually Similar Images.

Yep, it gives really a good overview. Nice work.
Even if there is only one Mario.  ;D
Congrats.

Yeah, well. A great app development would be a general "publisher" app for uploading and syncing (!) files from IMatch to FB, Twitter, Insta, smugmug, Flickr, Piwigo, ...
This is on my to-do list for quite some time, but I've never got over the first stages. Then other things were more important...

Such an app would be challenging and technically interesting (the authorization part alone, the syncing, the different APIs used by each service) but would definitely useful for more than a handful of users.

Yes.. my Gallery App does some of this - including syncing - and works well for my needs.  I have some enhancements on my list like keeping track in the DB of which images have been uploaded and what "album/gallery" they appear in, etc.  But - for my own needs, the app does what I need it to do.

I was going to tackle something different when I had time but, as you say, the API's and their ever changing nature would be challenging.

Well, if it would be easy for the user, really easy, then I agree.
