Title: Exporting Categories from 3.6 and Keep the Image Category Assignments from 3.6
Post by: kiwilink on July 02, 2013, 04:17:25 AM
I followed Marios directions and I sucessfully exported my categories to Imatch 5.  Now, how can I copy some of my Images from 3.6 along with the category assignments that I had in 3.6?  I assume there is a way for me to export a directory of images from 3.6 into Imatch 5 and not lose the category assignments that I had in 3.6.

Thanks for the help!!

1. Make sure you export your categories with file links in IMatch 3.
2. Make a copy of some of your image folders and index these copies with IMatch 5.
3. Import your category schema, using the CRC option to map the files.

The trick is to have the files in the IMatch 5 database before you run the category import. IMatch can assign files only when they are already in the database, not after the fact.

Mario:

Thanks!  I copied the categories first and then copied the images and that was wrong.  I followed your advice and it worked.  Thanks!  Before I imported them into IMATCH 5 again I just went to categories in IMATCH 5 and deleted them all.  Was that the right thing to do?

Yes. You can also just re-import. IMatch will not duplicate categories or assignments.
