Title: Desktop Shortcut To "Favorites"
Post by: Stuntflyer on July 09, 2019, 03:50:50 AM
I created a desktop .exe shortcut and dragged it to "favorite tab" Is there another way to do this so I don't have to have keep the shortcut on the desktop in order for the favorite to work?

You can create them directly from the Windows START menu folder (see Create an Application Favorite (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#fav_basics.htm?dl=h-13)).
This works usually, unless the application has created a special kind of shortcut which does not actually launch the app but first calls Windows Installer for update checks which then launches the app.

Corel Draw 2017 and Photoshop CS6 Extended would only launch from the "Favorites" tab if the desktop shortcut was dragged into IMatch. Experimenting, I found that copying the shortcuts to my internal storage drive and then dragging them to the "Favorites" tab works too. Getting these shortcuts off the desktop is what I was trying to accomplish. A work around that works well, so far

You should get the same effect when you open the START menu folder and drag and drop the shortcuts from there (see the link I have included). This also avoids created separate shortcuts somewhere.

Unfortunately for these two programs dragging from the start menu does not work. For example when dragging Corel 2017 I get the IMatch "not the right kind of shortcut" error message.

This is the file location for the icon on the "Start menu"
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2017 (64-bit)

Then it's not a real shortcut but an advertised (Windows Installer) shortcut. In these cases you need to do the extra hop via first creating as shortcut yourself somewhere, then adding this as a Favorite. Happens rarely, but is easy to handle.
