Title: Disable "Protected files"?
Post by: Polarigel on July 27, 2020, 07:45:30 PM
Hi
all too often I accidentally click on the "shield" in the thumbnail view, resulting in protected files and too many extra clicks to reverse that.

I don't use file protetction. As far as I understand it can't be disabled. Would it be possible to add disabling "Protected Files" as an option in "Preferences"

Thanks
Polarigel

+1 For the same reasons.

A.  If you accidentally set the protection, why not just hit <Ctrl>+<Z> to undo?
Alternatively, go to Edit menu and select Undo.

B. Or just press <F9>,<0> to show protected files and click the shield again.

Mario for me the real issue is the Protected Files visible setting isn't "sticky", meaning it's reset and turned off each time I launch IMatch.

Then when I inadvertently fumble around and accidentally click on the shield icon, I have to stop and remember how to turn that protected files visible option back on so I can unprotect the file again.

It would be nice if IMatch just remembered that setting each time the program starts up.

I agree. I haven't done this lately, but I have sometimes in the past. And when I have, it's usually taken me awhile to realize that it's been done (too late for 'undo'). I never use the 'protect' feature.

I use the protect-feature, there are images, what I want not, that other people see it.
The reason could be different.

If undo is not more possible, helps "Or just press <F9>,<0> to show protected files and click the shield again.", like Mario pointed out.

And, this accidentally click can also (and does in my case) happen to other icons on a thumb.
It depends also, is the thumb stretched or not and how big is a thumb.

You can also just turn off the thumbnail icons altogether... I did this many many moons ago and have never needed them.. using my own icons and items for anything I need to quickly see.  Just another option....

Because you may not immediatey notice that you clicked on it.

<F9>,<0> to show protected files.

Yes-yes-yes, and no-no-no other options. As I am a family photographer with an own computer, without any files to protect from my users.
Please, add disabling "Protected Files" as an option in "Preferences".

Since 5 users discussed this in favor, I have pondered this today.

But I think disabling the protected files feature will not be really that useful.
I mean, if you are clicking the protected files icon accidentally, you probably also click other icons accidentally?

What I could envision would be a icon lock option for File Windows.
If this is lock enabled, icons still show, but clicking them will do nothing (except maybe an info text box once per session, explaining that icons are locked).

There should be sufficient space on modern screens for another button to toggle this lock I suppose.

OK, icon lock is better. I click on icons accidently many times.

That would work for me.  I'd have to open the Map panel a different way but I could get used to it.

Instead of totally locking the icons wouldn't e.g. CTRL+Icon be the smarter configurable option? One had to invoke the respective icon combined with a secondary key (avoiding accidental hits).

True for me.  8)

Sometimes I hit the map panel or or other icons accidentally (though not often).

That was one reason, that I created my own icons at the bottom and did then hide all icons (the thumb looks also cleaner), nowadays sometimes I hide the icons, sometimes not.

Same here  :)

Well.. I used to accidentally launch the editor until you added the preference to block it.. so a lock mechanism would probably be a great addition to those that use icons.  Perhaps with a CTRL-CLICK OVERRIDE so you can keep things locked but then still access an icon if you want to temporarily?

I too hit the map icon often unintentionally. Probably because of its proximity to the yellow pencil.

Maybe an option to require a CTRL-click for MAP  and Shield icons would serve.

I have implemented an Icon Lock feature for the next release. See https://www.photools.com/release-notes/.
