What is "InteropIFD directory:?

I have been trying to write back some keywords. It fails with error, and the error window says to check the exif tool output and the iMatch log.

Both agree. The error is (followed by the fully specified file name):

Error: Truncated InteropIFD directory

In addition there are two identical warnings that say:

Warning: Bad InteropIFD directory

What does this mean, and what I can I do about it?
