IMatch databases are always upwards compatible. Existing databases will open in the latest product version, but not necessarily in older IMatch versions.
Changes in the feature set and new technologies may require modifications in the structure of the database files. Newer IMatch versions automatically upgrade your database when required. These databases are then not longer necessarily compatible with older IMatch versions. |

Re-installing IMatch on a new PC or another computer
- Download and install the latest licensed version of IMatch on that PC.
- Restore your database from your backup or copy it over from the old computer. Copy all the files into a new folder on your hard disk, e.g. C:\IMDB
- Restore your images from your backup or copy them over from the old PC.
Make sure you keep the same folder structure on the new disk as before
- Start IMatch and open the database manually once via the Database menu > Open command in IMatch (IMatch will remember the database the next time automatically
- IMatch will initially mark all your folders as off-line (yellow flag next to the folder icon) because your images are now on a different disk with a different media serial number.
Since IMatch stores the unique media serial number of the hard disk together with the folder information in your database, the stored information will not match the hard disk in the new computer.
Use the Relocate command available in the drive node to tell IMatch about the new location of the folders. See also "Relocate" in the IMatch help for more information, and this FAQ article.
- Go to Options menu > Preferences and check all settings to ensure that IMatch is configured the way you like it
- If you work with custom IPTC thesauri, copy the file imiptcusr.dat from the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR NAME>\Application Data\photools.com\IMatch\ to the same folder on the new system - or restore this file from your backup
- If you have custom scripts, copy them over from the old system to the Scripts folder below the IMatch program folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\photools.com\IMatch\Scripts) or restore them from your backup
