Installing the Evaluation Version

Installing the evaluation version / core version is fully automatic. Download the evaluation version from the download page to a folder on your computer.

Extract the contents of the self-extracting executable to a folder on your hard disk. Then run the installation program "Setup.exe" by double-clicking on that file in in Windows Explorer. Follow the directions shown on screen to complete the installation.

When you run IMatch for the first time, you have to run it under an administrative account or while being logged on as a member of the Administrator group.

Under Windows Vista use the "Run as Administrator..." command available via the right-mouse context menu of the IMatch icon on your desktop or taskbar..

IMatch does not need administrative privileges for normal operation. But to complete the installation, you have to run it under administrative privileges at least once.

Installing the Licensed Version
after purchasing IMatch

To install the licensed version of IMatch on your system, please download the latest update for IMatch from the download page.

Extract the contents of the self-extracting executable to a folder on your hard disk. Then run the installation program "Setup.exe" by double-clicking on that file in in Windows Explorer. Follow the directions shown on screen to complete the installation.

Installing the Latest Update

This is the same procedure as installing the licensed version explained above. Updates for IMatch are always complete, and automatitcally detect and replace older versions of IMatch installed on your computer.

If you work with multiple users please make sure that all users have the same version of IMatch. Sharing databases between different versions of IMatch is not supported.

IMatch databases are always upwards compatible. Existing databases will open in the latest product version, but not necessarily in older IMatch versions.

Changes in the feature set and new technologies may require modifications in the structure of the database files. Newer IMatch versions automatically upgrade your database when required. These databases are then not necessarily compatible with older IMatch versions.

Re-installing IMatch on a new PC or another computer

  • Download and install the latest licensed version of IMatch on that PC.

  • Restore your database from your backup or copy it over from the old computer. Copy the database file (the file with the .IMD4 extension) into a separate folder on the hard disk, e.g. C:\IMDB

  • Restore your images from your backup or copy them over from the old PC.
Make sure you keep the same folder structure for your images on the new disk as before

  • Start IMatch and open the database manually once via the Database menu > Open command in IMatch (IMatch will remember the database the next time automatically

  • IMatch will initially mark all your folders as off-line (yellow flag next to the folder icon) because your images are now on a different disk with a different media serial number.

Since IMatch stores the unique media serial number of the hard disk together with the folder information in your database, the stored information will not match the hard disk in the new computer.

Use the Relocate command available in the drive node to tell IMatch about the new location of the folders. See also "Relocate" in the IMatch help for more information, and this FAQ article.

  • Go to Options menu > Preferences and check all settings to ensure that IMatch is configured the way you like it

  • If you work with custom IPTC thesauri, copy the file imiptcusr4.dat from the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR NAME>\Application Data\photools.com\IMatch\ to the same folder on the new system - or restore this file from your backup

  • If you have custom scripts, copy them over from the old system to the Scripts folder below the IMatch program folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\photools.com\IMatch\Scripts) or restore them from your backup
