Besides normal renaming of single files, IMatch also allows you to rename batches of images at once using the Smart Rename feature.
This feature is especially handy when your camera produces meaningless file names like IMG_xxx or CRW_xxx. You can use the Smart Renamer in IMatch to rename the images to something more meaningful, e.g. by adding a common prefix, and a increasing number for each image.
The Smart Renamer allows you to sort your images before renaming or renumbering them. Any sort preset available in IMatch can be applied. But you can also reorder the images manually to get exact the sequence you want. The ability to show small thumbnails of each image makes it even easier to create a specific sort order or numbering sequence.
You can also control the start sequence number and the step by which this number is increased for each image. Of course you also can use multiple sequence numbers per file name, or replace parts of the existing file name. You can also keep the existing file name, and just add a sequence number somewhere within the file name.
Using EXIF or IPTC Data
The Smart Renamer fully supports the unique variables concept in IMatch. This means that you can use any variable available in the current context to rename your images. Since variables allow you to access image attributes like date, time, file size, dimensions, and also EXIF or IPTC information, the Smart Renamer is extremely flexible.

For example, you may use the EXIF date and time embedded in your image to construct a file name. This allows you to create file names based on the date and time the image was taken. Having such file names makes it very easy to associate an image file with a specific date or event.
If you work with IPTC data, you can use one or more IPTC fields to create the file name. Or you use one of the over 30 image attributes IMatch supplies via variables to create a meaningful file name.
