Solving Install and Uninstall Problems

Sometimes I get reports from users who’ve run into errors while installing IMatch or IMatch updates.

Windows Installer reports errors like “xzy.msi not found” while trying to repair or reinstall. Or you get messages about a “corrupt installer database”. Strange errors like that.

These errors are often caused by a problem with the database maintained by Windows installer. It becomes corrupted sometimes. For whatever reason. Or a too thorough virus checker or “cleanup” utility removes .msi files from the Windows cache, thus causing problems when Windows needs to access these files during installation.

Microsoft offers a utility which checks the Windows installer system for such problems and in most cases can solve them. You can find this little tool on the Microsoft web site:

Diagnose and fix program installing and uninstalling problems automatically.
